Paisley – Greenlaw

The Greenlaw Practice is one of the longest standing training practices in the West of Scotland. Three of the partners including two of the trainers are ex-GPSTs of the practice. It’s that good, we never wanted to leave! We have four trainers in the practice, including the Training Programme Director for Clyde South.

Education and particularly communication skills teaching has always been and remains a very high priority on everybody’s agenda. We also take medical students, nursing and health visiting students. The wider practice team is very experienced in supporting GPSTs in their GP attachments.

Dr Scott (trainer) is an RCGP examiner and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow for teaching 4th and 5th years in the practice as well as being the TPD. Dr McColl (trainer) is the practice lead for CHCP cluster work and teaching undergraduates. Dr Sloan (trainer) is a very experienced trainer who is involved with GP selection/recruitment. Dr McGeough (trainer) is our new trainer and is currently the First 5 Co-chair for the RCGP, involved in supporting new GPs fresh from training for the first 5 years after CCT. The other partners all have additional commitments which help expose the GPSTs to the breadth of primary care potential careers: Dr Somerville is regularly involved in teaching undergraduates. Our GPSTs in post will be expected to help with this teaching, when appropriate. Dr Beagan is the GGC lead for improving access to healthcare for Hearing Impaired patients. She is a level 6 British Sign Language instructor and wrote the UK national guideline for management of depression in deaf people. She has a postgraduate qualification in Palliative Care too!

GPSTs are timetabled with 3 sessions of protected learning time each week and are encouraged to use this time to work on their ePortfolio, attend tutorials and complete their workplace based assessments. Go on! Speak to our previous GPSTs and give us a go – we are proud of our reputation!
