Kilmacolm – The New Surgery

We are based in a modern purpose built premises in the idyllic village centre of Kilmacolm, with a dispensing branch surgery in the village of Langbank. We are the only dispensing practice in GGC and this offers unique learning opportunities as a GP Registrar. We have a semi-rural catchment area and a wide range of socio-economic patient demographic.

Our Trainers are Dr Kim Stark, who has been a trainer since 2011, Dr Barry McCusker, who is becoming a Trainer, and Dr Mia Manasses who leads the training for University of Glasgow students in the practice.

We have an enthusiastic administration team, motivated to support and encourage training and are led by Margaret Williams, our Practice Manager. We meet every Tuesday morning with our Practice Nurse, Morag McVie, and Tracy Fraser our HCA, and focus on a weekly clinical topic to encourage discussion of new protocols, guidelines or SEAs. We have close links with our District Nursing team as well as monthly meetings with our Health Visiting colleagues.

We are fortunate, as part of the Inverclyde New Ways of working, to have currently 8 sessions of Practice Pharmacist time, as well as 2 sessions each week of Assessment Physiotherapy. This pilot has been hugely successful, both in supporting GP development and audit in prescribing, and also quality of care for patients.
