Port Glasgow – Newark

Newark Medical Practice is an established practice returning to training after a brief gap due to retirements. The Newark Medical Practice is a 5 Doctor team, of which 3 are Trainers and we are situated in Port Glasgow. Please read on to find out more:

Dr Stewart is the senior partner and lead trainer, and joined the team in 2017, after having trained in Port Glasgow in a neighbouring practice and working in Greenock as a partner for a number of years. Dr Stewart is also the cluster quality co-lead for the practice, an experienced Year 2 and 3 Undergraduate Tutor at the University of Glasgow Medical School and is a GP Appraiser for NES.

Dr Yeoman is our youngest partner and was in fact a former trainee at the practice. After undertaking a couple of NES fellowships and a salaried role she returned as a partner in 2017.  Dr Yeoman is the Deputy Director for Vocational Studies at the University of Glasgow medical school and a Year 2 and 3 Tutor.  She also has sessional roles with NES as a Peer Reviewer and First5 CPD Adviser.

Dr Anderson has worked as a partner in several practices within the West of Scotland and joined Newark in 2020. Dr Anderson is the cluster quality co-lead for the practice, works for the GGC OOH service regularly and sits on the local LMC committee for Inverclyde.

Dr Vaughan is our Salaried GP who recently relocated to Scotland in 2020. She too is dedicated to training and her experience lies with post-graduate entry medical students from the University of Oxford in her previous appointment.

Last but not least is Dr Pope one of our former partners and trainers, who is now principally an academic doctor at the University of Glasgow Medical School as the Director of Community Based Medical Education and GP Head of Teaching, but she continues with a sessional clinical commitment at the practice.

We offer joint injections, contraceptive implants and run a shared care Methadone Clinic.

The practice employ our own ANP, Sister Irvine and we have a Health Care Assistant.

We are supported by a very loyal and hardworking administrative and management team.

We are located within Port Glasgow Health Centre and we share this space with 2 other practices. There are several teams on site such as district nursing, health visiting, physiotherapy, SALT, podiatry, social work, learning disabilities and a community links worker.  We also have access to Treatment Room facilities and phlebotomy.  The local cluster is also supported by ANPs who assist with housecalls and pharmacists and technicians who help with practice prescribing.

We are located at the most Easterly edge of Inverclyde which is a short commute from Glasgow and there is ready access to amenities in Port Glasgow Town Centre and retail park.  There are some breathtaking views across the Clyde with nearby access and opportunities to explore the beautiful riverside and countryside.
